About Szechuan Bistro

Located at 2623 S Halsted St, Chicago, IL 60608, Szechuan Bistro operates as a chinese restaurant serving Chicago in Illinois. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it.

Chinese restaurants in the United States range from steam-table lunch counters to white-tablecloth Cantonese seafood halls, and most fall somewhere in between: a laminated menu, a lunch special board, and combo plates priced a few dollars below the dinner menu. Ordering by number off the menu is normal and speeds things up, especially at takeout counters. Family-style ordering, where a table shares several dishes with rice rather than each person getting an individual entree, is standard at sit-down spots and usually cheaper per person. Many neighborhood restaurants are cash-preferred or charge a small card fee, so it is worth asking or checking the door before you order. Delivery apps cover most areas, but calling the restaurant directly is often faster and avoids the markup.

The business lists hours on 6 days of the week. Typical hours are 11 am–8:30 pm. It is closed on Wednesday. As with most places, expect changes around holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. You can reach Szechuan Bistro at (312) 265-0047; calling is usually the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or directions.

Customers rate it 4.3 out of 5 on Google across 148 reviews, placing it among the better-regarded chinese restaurants in Chicago.

Chicago is in Illinois, in the Midwest, where summers are warm, winters are cold and snowy, and most errands are done by car; businesses keep steady year-round hours with the usual holiday changes. Getting around Chicago is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across Illinois's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

I really don’t understand why the review of this restaurant is not high. I went to this restaurant with my boyfriend and it was an amazing experience❤️The food was soooo delicious and it taste like authentic Chinese food(I had lived in china for few years, I promise they taste same or even better)! Also, my boyfriend is kinda picky for the food ingredients so we asked for some modifications for menu and the lady was so friendly to take care of all of our requirements. It was such a warm place to enjoy true Szechuan food. I am sure I will come back to Chicago to try the other menu from this restaurant!!

so upset i didn’t try this place out sooner. it’s located in the basement where a large variety of food stalls are located. we got the house special spicy and peppercorn flavors which were so fragrant. was a little spicy but so good, we couldn’t stop eating. we even took the peppercorn broth home to cook more stuff in it. not to mention, each protein was cooked to perfection, was so tender! a true hidden gem in chinatown

This is the best authentic Sichuan food I’ve had in Chicago—and in the entire United States. I’ve lived in many big cities, and nothing compares. When I lived in Chicago for six years, I would go here or order from this place at least once a week. Now I’ve moved to another state, and the only time I get to visit Chicago is during my annual conference (thank goodness for that). I take the Red Line three stops each day just to eat at this humble food court spot in Chinatown. I’m so happy to hear that the hard-working couple behind it is opening a proper restaurant near Xiao Tai Pei (still in Chinatown). They truly deserve it. I love everything on their menu, but my regular orders are: 藤椒活鱼 (Fish fillet with Sichuan pepper) 麻辣鱼 (Spicy and numbing fish) 夫妻肺片 (Sliced beef and offal in chili sauce) 麻辣牛肉片 (Spicy sliced beef) 干锅海鲜 (Dry pot seafood) 担担面 (Dan dan noodles) 青豆肉沫茄子 (Eggplant with minced pork and green beans) 蟹粉豆腐 (Tofu with crab roe) I can’t list everything—it makes me too sad typing this at the airport, leaving Chicago. I will be BACK!

Great authentic Szechuan cuisine! Cashier was very helpful and friendly, our dishes came out fast and hot, and the portions were generous. We got the Ma Po Tofu and Eggplant & Green beans and thought it was DELICIOUS! Will definitely be back 🤤.
